Lavender Lemonade
The porch drink, wearing its good perfume.
- fresh lemon juice1.5
- lavender syrup0.75
- cold water4
- ice
- 1.Time the Steep. Dissolve equal parts sugar into hot water, add the lavender buds — a teaspoon per cup — cover, and set a timer for exactly fifteen minutes. Strain the moment it goes off; the steep continues whether you're watching or not.
- 2.Roll and Juice. Roll the lemon hard under your palm before cutting — it breaks the membranes inside and buys you a third more juice. Squeeze, and strain out the seeds.
- 3.The Long Stir. Juice, lavender syrup, and cold water over a full glass of ice, then stir until the outside of the glass frosts — twenty slow seconds, not five fast ones.
- 4.Garnish with a Sprig. Fresh lavender and a lemon wheel, laid where the first sip will find them.
