The Dry January Bar

Thirty-one days is only long if every evening tastes the same. This is the month of structure: a proper glass, a real recipe, something worth sipping slowly. Six drinks built for the season — tea-forward, winter-spiced, and warm — so January feels like a choice rather than a sentence.

The Host's Notes

Batch the syrups on Sunday

Twenty minutes of simmering gives you a week of thirty-second drinks. The failure mode of Dry January is effort, not desire.

Use the good glassware

The ritual is the replacement. A wine glass with ice reads as a drink; a mug of juice reads as a compromise.

Keep one warm option ready

Cold evenings want a hot mug. The toddy and the steamer are the two that make January feel considered.

Don't announce it

Pour the spritz, hand it over, say nothing. Nobody at the table needs the backstory — the drink stands on its own.
