Warm Spiced Apple Cider
The whole house smells like this mug.
- apple cider8
- cinnamon stick1
- whole cloves3
- star anise1
- orange slice1
- 1.Choose the Cloudy Jug. Start with fresh-pressed, refrigerated cider — the cloudy kind from the cold case. Clear shelf-stable juice is apple-flavored water, and no amount of spice fixes it.
- 2.The Bare Simmer. Cinnamon stick, cloves, star anise, and the orange slice in, then the gentlest simmer your stove can hold for fifteen minutes — never a boil, which cooks off the aromatics you're trying to capture.
- 3.Ladle and Strain. Ladle through a small strainer into sturdy mugs — or just fish the spices out with a slotted spoon.
- 4.Keep the Pot Warm. Back on the lowest heat, lid ajar, mugs beside it — the pot hosts so you don't have to.
