The Story
The chain version is syrup on syrup. This one is real melted chocolate, strong coffee (decaf works), and actual mint — which means it tastes like chocolate first and candy second. Crushed candy cane on the whipped cream is not optional in spirit, even if it is in the recipe.

Brew Strong
Brew the coffee strong and hot — decaf is perfectly welcome here, because the chocolate does the carrying either way.
The chocolate carries it either way.
- 2
The Melt
Pour the hot coffee over the chopped chocolate and stir until it turns glossy — real bars, not syrup, are the whole difference between silk and sweet brown water.
Real bars, not syrup — the whole difference.

The Peppermint
Stir in the mint syrup after the chocolate, not before — chocolate first, candy second. That's the ratio that keeps it grown-up.

The Crown
Steamed milk poured against the back of a spoon so the foam holds back, then spoon the foam on top last, whipped cream, crushed candy cane.
The crushed cane is not optional in spirit.
The Method
The Melt & Crown
Melting is turning solid chocolate into silk using gentle, residual heat — always off the flame, stirred until glossy. The patient cousin of the simmer, reserved for the dessert end of the menu.
Hot coffee over chopped chocolate, stirred glossy, syrup in, then milk poured against a spoon so the foam holds back until the end. Spoon the foam on top last, crown it, serve immediately, accept compliments.

The Other Fifty Percent
Half the drink is the recipe. The other half is how it arrives — the glass, the light, the garnish doing its little job.
The Scene
Your biggest mug, whipped cream to the rim, and the crushed candy cane catching whatever light is left in the day. This one is dessert — stage it after dinner.
The Garnish, Actually
Crush the cane in a zip bag with a rolling pin — coarse rubble, not powder — and snow it over the cream at the last second so it doesn't melt in.
What Stages It
Large mugs
Sixteen ounces, room for the crown
A milk frother
Steam-and-foam without a machine
A cocktail shaker
